Circa 2010. Felt like uploading something a little seasonal, as it’s been snowing nonstop since Sunday morning here in Montreal. Cheers and happy winter! Now to crack open the eggnog… ;)

Oil Painting: Love & Passion
It has been a busy two weeks, but as I made a promise to myself to post something at the very least biweekly (or do my best, anyway), I’ve sifted through some older art and came up with this diptych. The two pieces currently hang above my buffet, and remain to this day a couple of my most popular oil paintings. They, as I’ve had to explain on many occasions, are not for sale.
Entitled “Love” for obvious reasons. Gotta have my morning coffee ;)
Tea, I find, is more of a “Passion” than love; at least in my case. In fact, I have an entire area inside my buffet reserved for my collection, and tea gadgets galore strewn about the kitchen. Coffee-related tech? Just the maker.
Now, back to work! Have a fabulous day, all! :)
Advanced Anatomy: Inkwashing Finale
Yesterday marked the last day of my Advanced Anatomy class at Syn Studio Art School. We started off with quick warm up poses, but soon moved on to another ink wash session! I think I’ve improved, if only a tad, at this technique, and I hope to do more… because it’s really, really fun. The above was our longest pose, at about 30 mins (including a preliminary pencil sketch). Clearly I need to work on my hand technique. Check below for more!

Wet Media: Inked Nuthatch
So there seems to be a lot of ‘wet’ media so far… Ah well. This was done with a Pentel Pocket Brush that split on me, so I used the ‘snake’ tongue to my advantage for the feathery look!
As a wildlife biologist, I have a certain fondness for birds. The Red Breasted Nuthatch is something of a common sight here in southern Quebec (and North America in general, actually) and at ~4-5″ are tiny little things. Adorable!
Advanced Anatomy: Ink Wash
a.k.a. I don’t know what the nuggets I’m doing! Today’s class was pretty exciting; I had my first experience with ink washing! Above is my first attempt; all I can do is shake my head and shrug… gotta start somewhere!
Wet Media: A Tiny Adventurer
For my first post, I decided to upload my first attempt with watercolour pencils. I can’t say that I’m 100% satisfied, but at the very least it was a learning experience. Faber-Castell pencils with a touch of Pentel Brush Pen magic, topped with a dash of correction pen highlights (another first). That little blop next to my signature? Yeah, that’s supposed to be a bug… Ahaha.
To be honest, I personally hate – okay, strongly dislike – ladybugs in real life (past infestation experiences will do that to you…), but on paper they’re kinda cute. … Okay I admit when I see them in their native habitat I think they’re adorable. Shush.
