I experienced something great this past weekend: my very first time as an exhibitor in Artist Alley. Last year I helped out Syn Studio Art School with their booth, so I had a mild idea of what to expect… but selling one’s own wares, seeing people’s reactions, and meeting like-minded artists truly is a life event, an artistic milestone if you will. And I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Continue reading

Pet Portraits: Meme Monday!
I’ve been inactive for health reasons for the past while, but I’m back! Over this past weekend I decided to come up with a trio of portraits based off a few of the internet’s favourite celebrity pets. From the left, we have ‘Grumpy Cat’ Tardar Sauce, Lil Bub, and ‘Doge’ Kabosu. Mainly done with Promarkers, but added some final touches with Derwent Coloursoft Pencils and White Gel Pen. Below is a gallery of the WIPs, for those curious. Continue reading
Pet Portrait: Topaze
Last month our local SPCA ‘Annexe’ had a Christmas auction, where one of their prizes was a pet portrait done by me. I present to you Topaze, a Tonkinese whom I am told is very affectionate! I primarily used Promarkers and pen, with a dash of white pencil and gel pen. Read on for the original photo and initial sketch! Continue reading
From the Archives: Cat in the Hat!
Circa 2010. Felt like uploading something a little seasonal, as it’s been snowing nonstop since Sunday morning here in Montreal. Cheers and happy winter! Now to crack open the eggnog… ;)
Fan Expo & Montreal Comic Con: 2014 Edition
As the summer draws to a close, so too does my busy season. The past few months were inundated with adventures in camping, paying visits to the beach, weddings, and most notably my two choice conventions of the year, Toronto’s Fan Expo and our local Comic Con in Montreal. And so my first anecdotal blog post commences. Continue reading
Analytical Sketching: Sum Up
This Thursday will mark the finale of my latest course at Syn Studio, Analytical Sketching. Essentially, it revolved around building up objects and figures from lines and geometric shapes. It really helped me to build upon my basic skills, and I noticed a significant improvement in the ‘3D’ appearance of my comparatively flat sketches. We only ever used pen and markers, which forced us to commit fully to whatever marks we put down. Since then, I think I may have touched a pencil once or twice. Of course, I was already a pen fan to begin with! Here are a few highlights from throughout the 10 weeks. Continue reading
Photography: Something a Little Different
I’ve dabbled in most forms of art; photography being no exception. So, to change things up, I’ve decided to showcase a few of my black and white photographs this time ’round. Now, I use the term B&W loosely, as it more so describes the method of how I came to these final products, as opposed to ‘black and white photograph’ in the literal sense of the word.
Sunday Sketches: Full Figure Poses
A few weeks ago I attended my first Friday Figure Drawing Workshop at Syn Studio (a bi-weekly event that I’ve always missed out on due to school…). It was a great experience, and I definitely plan on attending them on a more regular basis now that I’ve completed my Digital Imaging diploma. Shown are a few 10-15 minute poses from that night.
Sunday Sketches: Portrait Practice!
Checked in at my old Anatomy teacher’s private studio today for some portrait work… turns out there was no model to be had, so I wound up drawing him!
